Maria is a PhD candidate in the law department at Freie University in Berlin. She studied law and sociology in Freiburg, Germany, where she obtained her B.A. in Sociology and took the legal state examination. She specialized in employment and social law as well as in the social theory of inequality. Following her legal clerkship and the bar examination in Berlin she joined the Freie University Berlin as a research assistant, where she teaches social law and property law. Her PhD research focuses on equal pay and contract law. She explores gender bias in remuneration systems and individual contracts. Her aim is to establish a coherent analysis of discriminatory practices in wage determination and develop a best practice monitoring system for wage negotiation. Her additional fields of interest include private and anti-discrimination law, within which she organized several annual conferences and gatherings on equality and protection against discrimination in Germany. Her previous professional positions include legal counseling at the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency in Berlin.
