Camilla Gomes is a Ph.D. candidate in law at the University of São Paulo (USP). She received her bachelor’s and master’s degree from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), specializing in Public Law. She is currently a member of the Constitution, Politics, and Institutions Research Group at the University of São Paulo and a member of the Human Rights Clinic at the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Her research focuses on electoral fairness and the notion of passive suffrage, investigating the disparate impact of electoral rules on campaigns led by non-incumbent or nontraditional political candidates. Before starting her PhD program, Camilla worked as a senior attorney at a law firm in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where she specialized in public interest litigation before the Brazilian Federal Supreme Court. She has also previously worked as a lead legal aide at the Brazilian Federal Public Ministry.
