Crystal Lynn Webster is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Texas, San Antonio. She received her PhD from the W.E.B. Du Bois Department of African American Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Her research centers African American women and children in the nineteenth-century. Her first monograph, Beyond the Boundaries of Childhood: African American Children in the Antebellum North, is forthcoming with University of North Carolina Press, June 2020. She is currently conducting research for her second book, Criminalizing Freedom: African Americans and the Making of Criminal Reform in Early America.
