Tom Meinderts is a PhD candidate at the Center for History at Sciences Po, Paris where he works as a teaching assistant in subjects on contemporary international history and transatlantic relations. His research lies at the intersection of International Relations and political history. His current research focuses on the influence of lobby groups on US foreign policy, particularly concerning international trade and foreign aid. His dissertation studies the shift in US international population planning policies that took place in the 1980s and examines the impact that lobby groups had on foreign policymaking during the Reagan administration. Prior to joining Sciences Po, Tom Meinderts obtained MAs in International Relations and American Studies from Leiden University in The Netherlands where he also worked as a teaching assistant. His past research has focused on modern US-Japan relations, including a paper on trade conflicts in the 1980s which was published in the journal Globalizations.
